Star for Loyalty and Merit

Ster voor trouw en verdienste

Instituted by Governmental Degree of 29 August 1893 (to be effective from 1 January 1894) as a replacement for the Medal for Native Civil Merit.

It's a 52 mm wide twelve-pointed star of rays, awarded in four degrees:

Large Gold Star
On the center of the Star is a 30 mm wide medallion which has the National Coat-of-Arms supported by two Lions and the scroll bearing the legend "JE MAINTIENDRAI" (I shall uphold) on the obverse. The reverse medallion bears the words "TROUW EN VERDIENSTE" (Loyalty and Merit). The medallion was of blue enamel and both Coat-of-Arms and legend were of gold.

The ribbon was originally Nassau Blue with a wide orange center stripe and a small orange stripe near each edge. In 1945 this was changed to Nassau Blue with four small orange wavy center stripes.

Gold Star
On the center of the Star is a 20 mm wide medallion which has the Dutch Lion on the obverse. The reverse medallion bears the words "TROUW EN VERDIENSTE" (Loyalty and Merit). The medallion was of blue enamel and both Coat-of-Arms and legend were of gold.

The ribbon was originally Nassau Blue with a wide orange center stripe and a small orange stripe near each edge. In 1945 this was changed to Nassau Blue with four small orange wavy center stripes.

Large Silver Star

The ribbon for the Large Silver Star was originally Nassau Blue with a wide orange center stripe, but in 1945 it was changed to Nassau Blue with three small orange wavy center stripes.

Silver Star

The reverse medallion bears the words "TROUW EN VERDIENSTE" (Loyalty and Merit). The medallion was of blue enamel and both Coat-of-Arms and legend were of bronze. There are also Bronze Stars for Loyalty and Merit known without enamel.
